Few writers, myself included, are capable of being completely objective about our own work. When I write anything longer than 10 pages, I will seek advice of beta readers and outside editors. As a result, I began editing myself for those who wished to do the same in return, and I have come to enjoy assisting others to tighten and polish their work.
I make no apologies for any opinion on a writer's work, but I don't ever edit subject matter. Write whatever you will, that is your creativity. I do, however, personally not accept pornography. Fiction with erotic or graphic material which is NOT simply gratuitous, is fine. An editor's job is to make a given work better. My approach is to demonstrate WHY edits were made, to show how a given edit was done to make the writing better. I do not believe in belittling anything, even the worst grammar, spelling, sentence construction, syntax, whatever, but to show what is correct. It is up to the writer to accept the edits. I accept material of any length, from short stories to full novels. My rates are the standard $3.00 to $5.00 per page, depending on the depth of the editing needed. I can give a cursory read and define what the fee structure would be accordingly.
I can supply references of my work, but I would rather protect the privacy of clients, you (who are reading this) included. If you have doubts or questions, I will do a sample edit; send one or two pages of a particularly troublesome passage and I will give you suggestions (but not a full edit for free). NO client material is ever shared with anyone else without the client's expressed permission. Confidentiality is assured.
A prospective client may leave a messsage on this topic, or contact me directly at robinleighanderson@gmail.com . I look forward to working with anyone who wishes their writing to see its full potential.
Regards,
Robin Leigh Anderson
