At the moment I am having a busy time. I decided to sign up for the annual NaNoWriMo challenge of writing a novel of 50,000 words or more in the month of November, both as a kick in the butt to one young woman I mentor and also to get down a story I've been thinking about for a long time. I am a bit behind where I should be at this time of the month , but I had a horrific plumbing disaster in this stupid apartment that took the first three days to mop up. I am catching up quickly, good thing I don't have a family who counts on me for anything! By the time I have finished the challenge at the end of this month, I should have a good first draft of parts 2 and 3 of a trilogy, which combined with the first part, a long story written way back in 1985, will make a complete scifi novel. Good to have another genre to present at SBWC next summer.
Yes, there will be a conference next year, we are working diligently on this very thing right now. Monte Shulz, the new owner, certainly has his hands full cleaning up, but I think the streamlined conference will take us back to what SBWC is good at, storycrafting. Not so much of the extraneous matter that people found downright confusing and distracting, not to mention it added to the expense of the conference overall. Simpler is better. The new website should be up and running by the end of this month.
In the meantime I am a bit behind where I should be, only at just under 22thou for the month so far, so back I go to my story. I will post what my final word count was and what exact date I finished.
