Recently my treasured mentor and fellow writer Yvonne Nelson Perry asked me to be a judge in the Short Story Contest 2009 for the San Diego Book Awards Association. I found it interesting to read what writing hopefuls are creating, and I took great pleasure in passing on some of the things I have learned over the years. I wish all the entrants the best, both for this contest and for the writing they have ahead of them! ;D

I am pleased to report that, for the third year in a row, I have been asked to judge several short stories for the San Diego Book Awards Association. I am currently plowing through the selelction sent for me to read and evaluate. It does surprise me what some hopeful writers actually thinks constitutes good writing. I hope that something good bubbles to the top, as there are some really exceptional undiscovered, unacknowledged writers out there!
